Where it all happens...

Today is the last day of school for my kiddies. The excitement and energy in our house, with the anticipation of summer,  is so abundant you can just about taste it. It will be nice to not be ruled by the clock for 2 long months and to really get in some good quality bonding time with my little monkeys.:)

I hope to get a whole bunch accomplished over the summer too...website up, more portfolio pieces, and business side of things up and running.  And my wish list of illustration related items keeps growing....eeek !sorry hubby :(.  The more I delve into this wonderful world of illustration the more I realize that I am really going to need to get myself Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I tried each out this year using the trial version. I am hoping to get the Adobe Creative Suite at some point....it looks so fantastic.  I'd also like to get a scanner, for my sketches...if only I could scan my plasticine illos...grumble.  For this reason I am also looking into digital SLR cameras, so I can hopefully take good photos myself for portfolio work etc, and then only need to hire a professional for illustration work.....I'm looking at the Canon Rebel XS and the  Nikon D3000. If anyone has any thoughts/ suggestions or preferences I'd be happy to hear them!! :)

I just purchased the Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines. It is chalk full of everything I will need from contact info, pricing, forms, copyright info ...the list goes on. I know it will be full of earmarks and well worked-in over the next few year. If you don't already have it I highly recommend it.

Now I should go tidy up my desk!!! I know,I know it is a MESS! It's like a plasticine bomb blew up all over it!!! :)

Hi Suzanne! Hope you are having a wonderful summer so far. I thought of you today when I was perusing "IllustrationMundo.com" (http://www.illustrationmundo.com/wp/)
and they are spotlighting this artist: Irma Gruenholz..from Spain. Are you familiar with her work? http://www.deplastilina.com/

I am amazed at what you do, and what others can do with this medium!

Take good care,
Shirley

Hi Shirley,
We actually just got back from a few heavenly days at our family cottage :)
I'm feeling refreshed and a little "crispy"(Irish complexion inherited from my Dad- Geesh)

Thanks for the heads up about Irma's work featured on IllustrationMundo....I love her work! It was really sweet of you to pass the info along!!
(I really must get myself Adobe photoshop so I can resize some of my images as I would really like to get some of my work up on there site too!)

I hope you're having a great summer so far too...and enjoying the summer weather!

Cheers,
Suzanne

Glad you had a great time at the cottage..the kids looked like they had a ball!! Yes, and that book you purchased is awesome..as well as the Adobe Creative Suite. You will love it! Hope you get all the things you need to get your work out there in the public eye!

As for your q' at the WLTI blog - thank you so much for your kind visit, by the way, - I have asked the "lead" person to answer your q' about posting the new theme...not sure if we are or not, but we'll let you know! : )

Looking forward to seeing your newest creations! Glad to hear you're refreshed!! (crispy is not so good, but what a fun term!) : )

Hi Shirley,
Thanks so much for the feedback regarding my recent purchases off my wish list. I can't wait to delve into the Adobe programmes and "play".
I'm hoping this will be a productive summer and I will get lots ticked off my ever-growing list :)

Your encouragement is so much appreciated, it really does put a smile on my face and gives me a little nudge to go for it and be brave- thanks :)
